Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. 250 Vale View Rd, Unit 5, Langdon, AB T1X 2E8.

If you have swelling that is spreading down your neck or closing an eye, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or an injury involving more than the teeth, go to your nearest emergency department rather than waiting for us.

What counts as an emergency

What to do right now

Severe or worsening toothache

Rinse with warm salt water and take the painkiller you would normally take. Do not hold an aspirin against the gum — it burns the tissue.

Pain that wakes you at night, or that no longer settles with painkillers, usually means the nerve is involved. That is treatable, and it is much easier to treat early.

Facial swelling

Call us straight away. If the swelling is closing your eye, spreading down your neck, or you are having any difficulty breathing or swallowing, go to the emergency department instead.

Swelling means an infection has left the tooth and moved into the surrounding tissue. This is the one dental problem that is genuinely urgent rather than merely painful.

Knocked-out adult tooth

Pick it up by the crown, never the root. If it is dirty, rinse it in milk for a second or two — do not scrub it. Put it back in the socket if you can, or keep it in milk, and call us immediately.

A tooth replanted within the first hour has a real chance of surviving. This is the one case where minutes genuinely matter.

Broken or chipped tooth

Keep any pieces. If there is a sharp edge, cover it with a little orthodontic wax or sugar-free gum so it does not cut your tongue or cheek.

How urgent it is depends on how deep the break goes. We will get you in quickly to find out, and settle the tooth down before restoring it properly.

Lost filling or crown

Keep the crown. Avoid chewing on that side and keep the area very clean.

The exposed tooth is soft and sensitive and will decay quickly. In many cases the original crown can simply be re-cemented.

Bleeding that will not stop

Bite firmly on clean gauze or a folded handkerchief for a full twenty minutes without checking it. Then call us.

Most bleeding after an extraction settles with sustained pressure. If it has not after twenty minutes of genuinely uninterrupted pressure, we want to see you.

Call us

Tell whoever answers what has happened and how long it has been going on. We hold time in the schedule every day for urgent problems.

Get out of pain

The first priority at an emergency appointment is always to settle the pain and any infection — not to sell you a treatment plan.

Find out why

3D imaging and an examination while you are comfortable, so the cause is something you can see on a screen rather than take on trust.

Plan the repair

Once you are comfortable we talk about the proper fix, with a written estimate, at a pace that suits you.

Questions

Before you call

I am not a patient here. Will you still see me?

Yes. You do not need to be an existing patient to be seen in an emergency, and you are under no obligation to move your ongoing care to us afterwards.

What if it happens outside your opening hours?

We are open 9:00 am – 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday. Outside those hours, call (403) 936-2866 and follow the instructions on the message. If you have facial swelling that is spreading, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or an injury involving more than the teeth, go to your nearest emergency department rather than waiting for us to open.

How quickly can I be seen?

We keep time free each day for urgent problems, so in most cases the same day. Call as early in the day as you can — it gives us the most room to fit you in.

Will it be expensive?

An emergency visit is an examination, any imaging needed, and treatment to settle the problem. We follow the Alberta Dental Association Fee Guide and direct-bill your insurer where your plan allows it, and you get a written estimate before any further work begins.

Can I be sedated? I am dreading this.

Yes. Nitrous oxide, oral sedation and full general anesthesia are all available here, and dental anxiety is an entirely normal reason to ask for them. Say so when you call and we will plan for it.

Not urgent?

Book an ordinary appointment

If it can wait, book a normal visit and we will give it the time it deserves rather than squeezing it into an emergency slot.
