Exams & Cleanings
A full assessment, a thorough hygiene visit, and a plan you understand.
A complete exam and professional cleaning is the single highest-value appointment in dentistry. It is where problems are found while they are still cheap, small and painless to fix.
Your first visit is a full assessment: digital X-rays, an intraoral scan, a soft-tissue and oral cancer screening, gum measurements, and a review of how your bite functions. Your hygienist then removes the plaque and hardened tartar a toothbrush cannot reach, polishes, and — where it is useful — applies fluoride.
We finish by walking you through what we found on a screen beside the chair, and agreeing what, if anything, needs doing. Most patients are seen every six months; if your gums or your risk profile call for a different interval, we will tell you why.

Common questions
Exams & Cleanings
How often should I come in?
Every six months suits most adults. Patients with gum disease, a high cavity rate, dry mouth or certain medical conditions do better on a three or four month interval — we will recommend one and explain the reason.
Does a cleaning hurt?
For healthy gums, no. If there is inflammation or heavy tartar it can be tender, and we can numb the area — just say so. Sensitivity after a first deep cleaning usually settles within a few days.
Do I need X-rays every visit?
No. Bitewing images are typically taken every 12 to 24 months depending on your risk, and a full series far less often. Our sensors are digital and low-dose.
