Sealants & Fluoride
Two quick, painless treatments that prevent most childhood cavities.
Most cavities in children start in the deep grooves of the back molars, where a toothbrush bristle simply cannot reach. A sealant fills those grooves in; fluoride hardens the enamel everywhere else.
Sealing takes a few minutes per tooth, involves no drilling and no freezing, and is usually done shortly after the first permanent molars come through around age six, and again around twelve.
Fluoride varnish is painted on at the end of a cleaning appointment. It sets on contact, tastes fine, and measurably reduces decay rates in children.
